How HSNY Started
HSNY has a history embedded in helping NYC’s most vulnerable populations and we continue to move forward in this charge. We remain dedicated to providing the highest level of service by expanding our number of shelter sites across the five boroughs, bolstering our social services for clients, ensuring that our buildings are clean and well-maintained, and providing the best employment opportunities for our staff.


2025
HSNY surpasses 500 employees.


2025
HSNY awarded Welcome Center location, 2nd in New York city, intaking Street Homeless population.


2025
HSNY takes over Harlem United Supportive Housing program, and ads 200 more units to portfolio.


2025
HSNY take over an additional PWLHA site and provides social services at that location for first time.


2024
HSNY expands Food and Nutrition program to all other sites


2023
HSNY awarded first supportive housing contract from Continuum of Care (COC) with 30 units.

HSNY opens two new shelters in EHP program.

In response to migrant crisis, HSNY asked to open 5 new facilities and does so in 45 days.

Rebranding of HSNY occurs with revamp of website.


2022
HSNY expands in social service program into the HRA Emergency Housing Program (EHP), providing social services for the first time.


2021
HSNY completes an organization overhaul, with new leadership and staff. Employee headcount at 240.


2020
HSNY rapidly opens up isolation sites in Manhattan to adress the COVID-19 crisis.


2019
HSNY is awarded a Works Plus contract by the NYC Department of Probation to deliver resiliency skills-building opportunities to youth in the 42nd Precinct catchment area.


2019
HSNY receives NYC discretionary funding to support community outreach and food distribution to NYC neighborhoods experiencing food insecurity.


2018
HSNY is awarded a Ryan White grant to serve people living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA) and BPHN receives funding through the NYSDOH Medicaid Redesign Team (MRT) to offer Health Home Supportive Housing rental assistance to low-income Medicaid recipients.


2010
HSNY begins operations of transitional shelter services for families with children, and for adult families, prioritizing family stabilization towards to independent living for unhoused families.


2005
HSNY secured contract to directly provide emergency housing and case management to PLWHA.


2001
HSNY was founded to address the dire need of homelessness.
